If you are reading this, then good for you! Chances are you are in need of some very basic guidance in becoming a more credible writer. Whether you have dreams of writing the next great American novel, going viral with your blog, updating your resume, or just writing a cogent email to a friend or business associate, you are in desperate need of acquiring syntactical and editorial skills.
I cannot make writers out of non-writers, but I can help you clean up the grammatical carnage you’ve wreaked upon your readers for years. Because spell check is an integral part of our writing lives, we assume that all mistakes will be found and made right. Au contraire! Spell check does not work contextually, so that even though you’ve spelled “there” correctly, you’ve used it incorrectly, as in “They’re house and all of there belongings were destroyed.”
For those of you who have given up on the world and life, this blog is not for you, but for people who still take pride in how they present themselves and believe that correct spelling and good grammar go a long way toward making a strong impression, then this blog is for you. Many of you delude yourselves after writing something, thinking, “This reads fine and even if there are a few misspellings or poor sentence structure, who cares and who will notice?” Let me assure you that there are people out there who still care and will notice. Your casual disregard of correct usage may ultimately cost you a job or promotion.
So fasten your seat belts, my poor syntax scoffers, it is going to be a bumpy night (s). I will, however, try to make the journey fun and lighthearted.
